MEE HOON KUEH?
Did You Know..
Mee Hoon Kueh (面粉粿) is a beloved traditional Chinese noodle soup dish that originated from southern China and is popular in Singapore and Malaysia. The name translates to "wheat flour cake" in Hokkien or Teochew, referring to the hand-torn pieces of dough that form the base of the dish.
Uncle Mee Hoon Kueh
At Uncle Mee Hoon Kueh, each piece of kueh is hand-torn, giving it a rustic, chewy texture that’s very different from factory-made noodles. These dough pieces are cooked in a rich, savory broth—traditionally made with pork bones, ikan bilis, soya bean and dried solefish (ti poh) for a deep, umami flavor.
Here, the dish is served in its most original form, with the following ingredients:
- Minced pork
- Vegetables
- Anchovies (ikan bilis)
- Soft-boiled egg
- Mushroom slices
We also have handmade dumplings that are made with chestnut and solefish, just like in the past.
In Singapore, Mee Hoon Kueh is a comfort food for many, often bringing back memories of home-cooked meals and hawker centre breakfasts from childhood.
